The Festival

Il Mediterraneo Video Festival is an international Documentary Film Contest.

It is organized by Medfest, a no-profit cultural association involved in promoting the cultural landscape of the Mediterranean area in its different definitions: cultural heritage, traditions, nature, environment, arts. The Festival aims to promote the cultural diversity, the peaceful coexistence among people and the intercultural dialogue, by means of the cinematographic language.
The Festival has achieved a great success over the year thanks to its engagement within the revaluation of the cultural landscape through the promotion of choice documentary films and the world-wide participation of directors, members of the intelligentsia. It is an international event aiming to spread the cinema – vérité and an occasion to help those art-house films which found it difficult to be released.
Year after year, Mediterraneo Video Festival has awarded a prize to some authors such as: Fiorenzo Serra, Claire Simon, Herz Frank,  Abdellatif Ben Ammar,  Norma Marcos , Anat Even , Antonietta De Lillo, Bruno Lauzi, Fernada Pivano, Matteo Garrone, Leonardo di Costanzo, Giacomo Campiotti, Paolo Benvenuti, Mimmo Calopresti, Shirin Ebadi, Silvano Agosti, Mario Martone, Gillo Pontecorvo, Giuseppe Piccioni, Renzo Rosselini, Alberto Grifi, Roberto  Perpignani, Gianfranco Rosi, Giulio Scarpati, Ugo Gregoretti, Marco Baliani.

Medcinelab 

medcinelabThe festival have been organizing for years Medcinelab laboratories addressed to schools. The activity promotes – in synergy with educational programs – exhibitions and courses on documentary filmmaking. The project purpose is to reverse the role of the student from passive user to an active part in the realization of the message and the audiovisual language that is able to read and to explore reality. The laboratories are divided into two parts, theoretical and practical, and have achieved great success over the years. The works produced during the workshop have been and will be presented during the  Mediterraneo Video Festival in the educational training section.

La Ballata della Carusella ( Ita 2008), Liceo Scientifico Leonardo Da Vinci  di Vallo della Lucania (SA), about the bioversity of the National Park of Cilento.

Residenze ( Ita 2008), Liceo Scientifico G.B. Piranesi di Capaccio (SA) about  the rural world and the socio-economic aspects of agriculture in the Piana del Sele

The Association

MEDFEST is a no profit cultural association, working for years in the promotion of a culture of diversity and peaceful cohesion among the peoples, involving international filmmakers, intellectuals, representatives of institutions, media and public opinion through the language of documentary filmmaking. It is member of C.I.C.T. (International Council for Film and Television) of UNESCO, aims to strengthen links between the Mediterranean environment and the “cinema of reality” that has difficulties in distribution. In addition, the Association is engaged in training activities through stages of documentary filmmaking and small productions that aim to recover the intangible culture of the regional territory
