SINOSSI ITA:Maysoon Majidi è una giovane curda, attivista per i diritti civili e politici, impegnata nella lotta per il riconoscimento del Kurdistan e dei diritti fondamentali negati in Iran. Arriva in Italia su una piccola imbarcazione insieme ad altri 77 passeggeri, poiché deve scappare in quanto ormai invisa al governo degli Ayatollah. Approdata alla vigilia di Capodanno 2023 a Crotone, in Calabria, due passeggeri la accusano di essere l’assistente del capitano che guidava la barca. Viene trattenuta dalla Polizia e quindi arrestata. Trascorre così dieci mesi in carcere, di cui le prime due settimane senzapossibilità di contatti con un interprete, un avvocato, la sua famiglia. Inizia uno sciopero della fame per denunciare l’ingiustizia e gli abusi subiti, arrivando a perdere 17 kg. A ottobre del 2024 viene scarcerata, restando in attesa della sentenza che deciderà il suo destino.
Maysoon Majidi is a young Kurdish civil and political rights activist dedicated to the struggle for the recognition of Kurdistan and the fundamental rights denied in Iran. She arrived in Italy on a small boat with 77 other passengers, having fled because she had fallen out of favor with the Ayatollahs’ government. After landing in Crotone, Calabria, on New Year’s Eve 2023, she was accused by two passengers of being the assistant to the boat’s captain. She was detained by the police and subsequently arrested. She spent ten months in prison, the first two weeks of which were without any contact with an interpreter, a lawyer, or her family. She began a hunger strike to protest the injustice and abuse she had suffered, losing 17 kg in the process. She was released from prison in October 2024 and is currently awaiting the verdict that will determine her fate.

Il corto “Pietre” partecipa al Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival, Tripoli Film Festival, Festival del Cinema Europeo di Lecce. Il corto “Rosa”, presentato all’Encounters Short Film Festival di Londra (uno dei festival qualificanti per gli Oscar); in onda su Rai1 e scelto dal Centro Nazionale del Corto per l’iniziativa “10 corti italiani nel mondo” distribuiti in ambasciate e consolati. Dal 2013 cura vari casting in Calabria: “Anime nere”, “Zero zero zero”, “Padre nostro”. Nel 2020 operatore aggiunto per il film “Il buco” di Michelangelo Frammartino, Premio speciale della giuria alla Mostra di Venezia. Nel 2023 realizza il docufilm “Mimmolumano”, sulle vicende giudiziarie di Mimmo Lucano, ex sindaco di Riace: selezionato al Premio Libero Bizzarri, al Sudestival, al Los Angeles Italia film festival. Nel 2025 realizza il docufilm “Domani – Il viaggio di Maysoon Majidi”, su una ragazza iraniana arrivata in Italia su un barcone e accusata ingiustamente di scafismo: selezionato al Festival dei Popoli e al Rome International Documentary Festival. Docente di Storia del Cinema e Pratica sul set presso la Scuola Cinematografica della Calabria.
He creates documentaries and short films that have won awards at national and international festivals. He collaborated on Wim Wenders’ film Il volo. He won the Calabria Film Festival with the short film Il ladro. His short film Pietre was screened at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, the Tripoli Film Festival, and the Lecce European Film Festival. His short film Rosa was presented at the Encounters Short Film Festival in London (an Oscar-qualifying festival), broadcast on Rai1, and selected by the National Short Film Centre for the “10 Italian Short Films Worldwide” initiative, which distributes films to embassies and consulates. Since 2013, he has managed casting for various productions in Calabria, including Anime nere, ZeroZeroZero, and Padre nostro. In 2020, he served as an additional camera operator for Michelangelo Frammartino’s film Il buco, which won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. In 2023, he made the documentary Mimmolumano, focusing on the legal proceedings involving Mimmo Lucano, the former mayor of Riace; the film was selected for the Libero Bizzarri Award, Sudestival, and the Los Angeles Italia Film Festival. In 2025, he produced the documentary *Domani – Il viaggio di Maysoon Majidi*, about an Iranian woman who arrived in Italy on a migrant boat and was unjustly accused of people smuggling; it was selected for the Festival dei Popoli and the Rome International Documentary Festival. He teaches Film History and On-Set Practice at the Calabria Film School.

Barbara Di Fabio, nata a Melito Porto Salvo il 3.11.1975, avvocato. Si dà al teatro sin dal liceo, successivamente diretta da Bernardo Migliaccio Spina in “Nozze di sangue” di F. Garcia Lorca. Partecipa a spot e fiction per LaC TV. Attrice nel videoclip “Lacrime di ferru” di Fabio Macagnino. Attrice nel booktrailer “Segui sempre Il gatto bianco” di Margherita Catanzariti, regia di Vincenzo Caricari. Attrice nella docufiction di LaC TV “Donne ribelli” di Vincenzo Caricari. Redattrice per circa un anno del magazine online Hermes. Sceneggiatrice per la Scuola Cinematografica della Calabria. Coregista del documentario “Domani – Il viaggio di Maysoon Majidi” (2025).
Barbara Di Fabio, born in Melito Porto Salvo on November 3, 1975; lawyer. She has been involved in theater since high school, later performing under the direction of Bernardo Migliaccio Spina in *Blood Wedding* (*Nozze di sangue*) by F. García Lorca. She has appeared in commercials and TV dramas for LaC TV. Actress in the music video “Lacrime di ferru” by Fabio Macagnino.
