11 aprile 1975, alle 13.30 circa, la quotidianità della Contrada Romani, un piccolo quartiere rurale della provincia vesuviana, viene bruscamente interrotta da un boato: la Flobert’s una fabbrica di armi giocattolo, è esplosa uccidendo 12 operai.

Questi giovani lavoratori erano designati alla produzione illegale di veri colpi da arma da fuoco, che assemblavano all’interno dei “bunker”, un claustrofobico padiglione distaccato dal resto della fabbrica, senza misure di sicurezza.

Il racconto dell’unico sopravvissuto del bunker, di chi ha lavorato in quella fabbrica e dei parenti delle vittime, si intreccia con quello di chi canta questa storia da cinquant’anni, il Gruppo Operaio ‘e Zezi, e ci restituisce due immagini: quella di un pezzetto di provincia tradita dalle promesse dell’industrializzazione e quella, attualissima, dello sfruttamento della vulnerabilità dei lavoratori.

On April 11, 1975, at approximately 1:30 PM, daily life in Contrada Romani, a small rural neighborhood in the province of Vesuvius, was abruptly interrupted by a roar: Flobert’s, a toy gun factory, had exploded, killing 12 workers. These young workers were assigned to the illegal production of real firearms, which they assembled inside the “bunker,” a claustrophobic pavilion detached from the rest of the factory, with no safety measures.

The story of the bunker’s sole survivor, of those who worked in that factory, and of the victims’ relatives, intertwines with that of those who have been singing this story for fifty years, the Gruppo Operaio ‘e Zezi, and presents us with two images: that of a small part of the province betrayed by the promises of industrialization, and the very current one of the exploitation of workers’ vulnerability.

Come fumettista collabora con riviste e realtà indipendenti e underground e ha pubblicato in libreria con Round Robin Editrice il graphic novel Rwanda, i giorni dell’oblio, distribuito in edicola con Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Francesca Ferrara Multimedia documentary maker and activist from the Vesuvian province. He works in the audiovisual and publishing industries, focusing his work on the narrative of social inequality. As a cartoonist, he collaborates with independent and underground magazines and organizations, and has published the graphic novel “Rwanda, the Days of Oblivion” with Round Robin Editrice, distributed on newsstands by Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Giuseppe Carrella Fotografo, nato e cresciuto nella provincia vesuviana. Frequenta il master di fotografia della DAM Academy di Napoli nel 2021 e si specializza in reportage seguendo la masterclass di WSP a Roma, nel 2024. Da freelance, si occupa di fotogiornalismo e fotografia documentaria, concentrandosi su progetti a medio e lungo termine che esplorano tematiche sociali e ambientali, focalizzandosi prevalentemente sulle aree periferiche della sua città.

Giuseppe Carrella Photographer, born and raised in the Vesuvian province. He attended the photography master’s program at the DAM Academy in Naples in 2021 and specialized in reportage by attending the WSP masterclass in Rome in 2024. As a freelancer, he works in photojournalism and documentary photography, focusing on medium- and long-term projects that explore social and environmental issues, focusing primarily on the peripheral areas of the city.
